My self-map very cohesively depicts my personality, values, and developed style. Many style inspirations and research went into this self-map to clearly communicate the desired personal message. My biggest inspiration was Katsunari Shishido’s design, SEA TO SUMMIT (Shishido, n.d.). The illustration depicted a cosy outdoor environment, connecting the ocean to the mountains. It depicted the journey through linear and perfectly curved lines. The details in the illustration are quite simple, using a consistent and cohesive design to fully bring together the piece. The major inspirations I took was the pathways, the scattered circles and crosses and the iconographies that represented places. I found many similarities between this map design and my pre-existing style, especially with the way I designed my pictograms. This persuaded me to continue along this path in this style. The way I was able to personalise it was my incorporating colour, typography, and more personalised illustrations. The location names used alliteration to address fun and playfulness. The names themselves are values and aspects of my own life to be more personalised, such as the Ally Park and Loyalty Lanes. My self-representation is depicted with my pictogram’s head as explained previously. To further push the personalisation, the typography is all written in my handwriting. My professional style is brought forth through the colours as well as line and shape theory. The colours’ opacity is turned down to make them softer and appear pastel. The road represented by the line also guides the eye across the entire page because of its continuation. This, mixed with the rounded shapes and round cap line work, produces a cohesively gentler effect. Using Procreate as the medium portrays my youthful and modern style through the lack of texture and shadows, emulating flat design. Overall, the self-map perfectly reflects my simple, cutesy art style to a young audience. I am very happy with how it turned out as it shows my development of my design style and personality.
